CRITICAL ART PROSPECTIVE BUREAU
BUREAU
About

NNFCTN is a prospective bureau.
We identify the aesthetics, the subjects and the artistic devices of the time.

WORK

NONFICTION attempts to introduce a critical enlightening thought for our time in the understanding of images that surround us. By a fine analysis and follow-up of the artistic aesthetics of the young creation NONFICTION develops original editorial formats: critical newsletter, printed exhibition, artistic interventions in situ, happy and generous curation.

ABOUT

Founded in 2018 by Céline Sabari Poizat, NONFICTION is the culmination of 10 years of experience in development consulting for cultural professionals, with the Palais de Tokyo, Marcus Kreiss' Souvenirs from earth, Michel Gondry's Usine de Films Amateurs, and the Gaîté Lyrique's development department.

NONFICTION is an annual edition that identifies the aesthetics, subjects and artistic devices of the time.

WORKING TOOL

NONFICTION is a working tool for all image professionals, halfway between curatorial study and creative watch.

PRINTED EXHIBITION

Artistic prospective published once a year, with a study guideline for each edition, but is driven by a general problem: how young artists disseminate the imaginations of an era through conceptual and aesthetic proposals.

Are they sometimes in the vanguard of a future world in the midst of writing?

CRÉER DANS UN MONDE À +4°

On 13 November 2023 NONFICTION programmed a 3-hour evening at the Palais de Tokyo dedicated to the ecological challenges of creation. Designed as a TV show, the evening brought together thinkers on ecology (Alexandre Monnin, Charlotte Cosson, Cy Lecerf-Maulpoix) and creators and cultural players (Aude Cartier for the Maison des Arts de Malakoff, Bento Architectes, Elsa Brès). Hosted by Juliette Quef for the VERT media. With an original performance, "Nous n'étions pas censé.x/s survivre" by Aela Mai Cabel and Rose-Mahé Cabel.
The evening laid the foundations for a reflection on the issues of CULTURAL POST-GROWTH, ARTISTIC PERMACULTURE and the TRANSFORMATION OF IMAGINATIONS.

CALIBAN & THE WITCH(ES)

CALIBAN & THE WITH(ES)
20.09 - 24.09.23
With Hélène Hulak, Lux Miranda, Johanna Rocard
Curation : Céline Sabari Poizat
venue : Berlinskej Model

The title of this exhibition is a tribute to Silvia Federici's essay Caliban and the witch, which sees the 16th century witch-hunt as an instrument of domination of the female body in the service of capitalism's mastery of the reproduction of labour power. This exhibition brings together the work of three french women artists who reclaim both the figure of the witch, this unruly woman who refuses to fall into line and perpetuates the knowledges and beliefs of ancient times, and also the fabric and knowledges of weaving as irreverent creative materials and techniques, far from the domestication that has been assigned to them.

This exhibition and performance activate the 4th issue of the printed exhibition NONFICTION. Entitled Then the charm is firm and good, the book brings together 93 young international artists whose work invokes the aesthetics of magic, occult, witchcraft, the fantastic, shamanism, the sacred, dreams, mysticism. Magic, this language of what remains flawed and operates when we allow ourselves to believe in it, powerfully confronts contemporary reality, dull and anxiety-provoking.

NONEWS

Prospective newsletter on the most cutting-edge young creation of the time, NONEWS highlights each month an artist, a place to follow, a concept that shapes the aesthetics of the time. The selected artists bear witness to an imagination in tune with the times. Atypical places are found in the four corners of the world, to enrich the monitoring framework and get off the institutional and already seen paths. The concepts will emanate from a changing world whose language is the translation. NONEWS assumes an editorial angle that claims to be critical thinking, echoing in particular the concepts of degrowth, ecofeminism, antispeciesism and deep ecology. Designed to fuel creative work, NONEWS uses short texts, a large number of images and a contemporary design inspired by post-internet aesthetics.

LA VITRINE

Echoing the annual NONFICTION publication, La Vitrine is an in situ carte blanche given to a young contemporary artist. Twice a year, NONFICTION and ARTER invite a young artist from the annual edition to take over the street window of their offices to propose an ephemeral artistic intervention. La Vitrine is an opportunity to question the place of the imaginary in society.

MASS

Created by June Balthazard and Pierre Pauze, MASS is a work which, going beyond the actuality of the climatic emergency, invites us to wonder about the roots of the ecological crisis and the philosophical questions it raises. For this purpose, the young French artists have imagined a story of anticipation opening a reflection on the loss of the human link with the rest of the living world and on the possibility of a collapse.

MASS weaves a complex tale, between reality and science fiction, about the existence of a primordial vibratory substance. Present both in creation myths and in scientific universes, notably linked to the CERN laboratory (Geneva), it could be the inherent link that connects us to our environment.

The work is composed of a film in several parts and an installation, creating a living, almost organic environment. MASS is a "total work" that can be integrated into a collective exhibition but also and especially be presented alone as an experience to be lived.

MASS was discovered through our prospective work on NONFICTION 02. We accompany the diffusion of the work.

MYCOTEMPLE

Conceived by the artist Côme di Meglio, Mycotemple is an eco-designed environmental work combining artistic, architectural and scientific know-how. MycoTemple is a space of transformations, both physical and spiritual. It is a dome woven by the innumerable roots of a living being: the mycelium. Invisible to our eyes, the mycelium plays an essential role in the Living. It transforms all dead materials into fertile soil. By symbiosis, it links trees in a vast network of mutual aid and interdependence. Thanks to its ramifications, the plants exchange information. Over several kilometers, the mycelium weaves an inter-species nervous system underground.
NONFICTION accompanies the artistic reflexion and the diffusion of the work.

NONFICTION issue 01

“The imaginary, it is what tends to become real.”

In the manner of this famous aphorism by André Breton, NONFICTION tracks, pursues, searches, analyses and accompanies creation in its most current form; deeply convinced that it harbours the seeds of the most complex questions of our time and forthcoming reality. Through the following pages, we propose you travel in the imagination of 45 international artists, born after 1980, at the tipping of a world. You will discover their fascination for the peculiar. You will most likely share their technological doubts and their search for identity.ies. The young international creation takes up the torch of the Oracle and invokes the antic hubris to give form to cathartic artworks; yet we had been warned. We take the party of a bare report, evoking timeless texts to give way to the image and what you will do with it, because, it seems, “The imaginary, it is what tends to become real.”

NONFICTION issue 02 - On nature

Gaia or Nature

In a large part of non-Western, non-monotheistic, non techno-centric and non patriarchal societies, nature has no word, it is a state of things of which we are a part. The nature /culture dichotomy underpins the structure of our Western imaginations. How can we question it?
Through the following pages we propose that you travel in the imaginary associated with what we call “nature” of 78 international artists, born after 1980, at the turning point of a world. Each imaginary is a complex and balanced double-edged system, of which you will explore all the facets, guided by a selection of reference texts and an aesthetic path in the images.
The young creation takes all the measure of its role and comes to question our deepest certainties. Is science on our side? Have beliefs understood everything? Can the future be different? What is the feminine?
So many open doors to write the future that remind us of the central place that imaginaries take in the construction of our societies. For as we like to remind ourselves at nonfiction: “the imaginary is what tends to become real”, André Breton.

NONFICTION issue 04 - Then the charm is firm and good

04 - "Then the charm is firm and good", taken from the witches' song in William Shakespeare's Macbeth, is a printed exhibition who explore the imaginaries of the occult, witchcraft, the fantastic, shamanism, the sacred, dreams, mysticism, in short, who question the boundary between the normal and the strange, the strict and the bizarre, and in a more general way, who interrogate reality

Magic, that language of what remains flawed and operates when we allow ourselves to believe in it, powerfully confronts contemporary reality, dull and anxiety-provoking. You will come across shamanic works that dialogue with other worlds, witches that haunt the mourning of a pre-capitalist Middle Ages, you will plunge through the the looking glass in search of your dreams, to the confines of your nightmares and what fear asks you to face.

NONFICTION issue 05 - AMOUR ET RAGE

05 - AMOUR ET RAGE

An epic of joy and celebration as life impulses in the face of the collapse of the living. "LOVE AND RAGE" is a nod to the slogan of the international civil disobedience action group Extinction Rebellion. "AMOUR ET RAGE" is a cry from the heart in the face of the artificialization of land and human relationships.

At a time when the living are rising up, we need to affirm the radical nature of gentleness and the reassurance of ecstasy. This is about joy. The joy of being alive, whatever the cost. The joy of performing in worlds that are marginal but very real. Carnival, pagan ritual, rave parties, cabaret, the circus, drag and nursery rhymes all praise this joy, as much a pulse as a fury for life.

NONFICTION 05 presents the work of 47 international artists, born after the 1980s, who explore the aesthetics of joy, from the gentle to the festive, for a reversal of the established order, a desire for utopia, here and now.
